Membership

EEC meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm, unless otherwise determined by the council at a previous meeting. You can always find up-coming events on the EEC calendar, including the next meeting date, time and location. For more information about the EEC, please contact us at: info@browardeec.org.

All levels of membership are non-partisan and will promote the objectives of the council.

Any individual 18 years of age or older who resides in the service area is eligible for membership in the Environmental Education Council of Broward County, Florida, Inc.  Membership is good May 1 - April 30. There are three forms of membership:

  • Member – at – Large
  • Active Member
  • Active Organization
Membership Types
Member-at-Large
A Member-at-Large may be an individual or any non-profit or for-profit organization who is dedicated to promoting environmental education. A Member-at-Large is interested in the mission of the EEC, but is not able to meet the commitment and attendance requirements of an Active Member.  Members-at-Large will be on all member lists, and email lists, they will receive all communications, publications and calendars of events. Members-at-Large are welcome to attend all meetings and participate in special event planning and committees.  Members-at-Large are not eligible to vote on EEC’s business or be members of the Board of Directors.  Should a Member-at-Large wish to change membership status, the individual and/or organization must commit to meet the criteria stated in Active Member or in Active Organization.

Active Member

An Active Member is an individual with a dedicated interest in promoting environmental education or involved in a professional capacity in education or in the field of environmental education. An Active Member of the EEC will commit to the following:

  • Serve on at least one committee per year.
  • Participate on a regular basis in the business of the Environmental Education Council of Broward County, Inc.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Miss no more than three regularly scheduled meetings in one year without jeopardizing member voting status.

An Active Member may serve on the Board of Directors. Should an Active Member miss more than three regularly scheduled meetings, said member’s membership will convert to the status of Member-at-Large until such time as the member can commit to participating according to the Active Member criteria.


Acitve Organization

An Active Organization is any not-for-profit organization or for-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental education or in the business of promoting environmental sustainability. An Active Organization of the EEC may have three representatives participate as part of the EEC membership.  An Active Organization Member will commit to the following:

  • Serve on at least one committee per year.
  • Participate on a regular basis in the business of the EEC.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Miss no more than three regularly scheduled meetings in one year without jeopardizing member voting status.
  • If missing a meeting and representing an organization, send a representative from his/her organization, who can vote and/or make a commitment in his/her absence.
  • Identify the individual who will usually represent the organization in voting situations.

An active representative of an Active Organization may serve on the Board of Directors. Should an Active Organization miss more than three regularly scheduled meetings, said members’ membership will convert to the status of Member-at-Large.

Rights of Members

An Active Member may serve on the Nominating Committee and vote on Directors at the annual membership meeting. An Active Member may also vote on issues brought to the membership. An Active Member who is not in attendance at the annual meeting may vote by written proxy according to policies established by the Board. Should multiple individuals represent one organization, only one vote will be valid. For voting purposes, the primary designated representative will be considered the Active Organization representative of record, unless the representative is unable to attend. The Board of Directors may determine additional Individual and Organizational Membership privileges. No member shall be entitled to any dividend or any part of the income of the Environmental Education Council of Broward County, Florida, Inc. or to share in the distribution of the Environmental Education Council of Broward County, Florida, Inc. assets upon dissolution.  All levels of membership are nonpartisan and will not promote an agenda or cause. Any member in violation of the Environmental Education Council of Broward County, Florida, Inc. bylaws and/or membership criteria shall be requested to resign by the Board.
